Why touch shots feel so hard

Most golfers struggle around the greens because they’re trying to help the ball.
That usually makes touch shots harder, not easier.

I saw this with a player who was terrified of blading chips. Every motion slowed down, hands got involved, and contact suffered. Once we simplified the motion and trusted the club, the strike cleaned up immediately.

Here’s the shift I want you to make:

  • Stop trying to guide the ball

  • Start trusting the club’s design

  • Let the motion stay simple and committed

Try this:
Hit a few chips focusing only on brushing the ground in the same spot — no steering, no deceleration.

If short-game touch feels inconsistent, I break this down clearly inside my digital course, 3 Keys to Chipping. Or just reply and tell me which short-game shot you avoid.

They pause, take an honest look at...
"Boring Golf” That Wins League Nights
Every year, the U.S. Open shows us the same thing: You don’t have to hit the prettiest shots to contend. You just have to avoid the big mistakes. U.S. Open setups are brutal: Fairways that feel like hallways Greens that reject anything slightly off Rough that punishes even small misses Yet the players who hang around the top of the leaderboard aren’t necessarily the ones hitting the most heroi...
Bad Ball-Striking Day? Here’s How To Still Score
The U.S. Women’s Open is known for one thing: It’s brutally honest. Thick rough, firm greens, and demanding setups expose every part of a player’s game. Fairways missed. Greens missed. Nerves exposed. But if you pay attention, the players who stay in the tournament don’t have “perfect” days. They have tough days… and still find a way to post a score. They do it with: Smart scrambling Acceptanc...
